LAWSUITS AND COMPENSATION CLAIMS ARE SET TO RISE AS WORKERS CATCH COVID

Updated: Dec 1, 2021

Business owners are left open to being sued if staff get sick at work and small business is doing everything they can to protect their staff, their families and customers from infection. If an employee believes they had contracted COVID because their employer was at fault, either deliberately or through negligence, they may be able to sue their boss.

Workers Compensation cases are also set to rise as high claim numbers are already recorded in many states, the majority being in Victoria and NSW.

Workers are worried about returning to work, in particular, those with disabilities, chronic illnesses and the immunocompromised.

As Mark Stapleton from Stapleton Family Meats says, “It all comes back to a duty of care”.

A proven way of creating a healthy environment in the workplace may be to install a UV-C Disinfection Unit, either free-standing or integrated on walls or ceilings. In Laboratory testing at Boston University, UV-C light sources reduced SARS-COV–2, the virus that causes COVID-19, infectivity on a surface to below detectable levels after seconds of exposure. *
